Occam Networks Inc. was founded in 1999 to develop and market solutions that help local telecommunications carriers meet the challenge of profitably delivering high-speed broadband services such as data and video, as well as lifeline voice services to residential and business subscribers. Occam is focused on simplifying today's complex access network to help carriers lower the cost of running their networks and deliver new services that can improve their return on investment and profitability.

The company is a first mover in a new telecom equipment product category. Its pioneering Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) platform immediately solves critical problems that local exchange carriers face in the deployment of broadband service. Through the use of Internet Protocol and Ethernet technologies, Occam BLCs enable carriers to add the bandwidth they need to provide new, revenue-generating broadband services, while also lowering capital expenditures and operating expenses.

The company also markets a complete line of Integrated Access Devices (IADs), customer premise equipment that provides Local Area Network (LAN) and legacy voice services to business customers from a converged access network.

Occam Networks markets and sells its products to independent local exchange carriers (ILECs), independent operating companies (IOCs), and PTTs. The company primarily focuses on the local access market, a telecommunications market segment with a strong growth potential. Analysis by industry experts such as TeleChoice and The Yankee Group project the market to grow to $8.5 billion by 2005, a 5-year CAGR of 25 percent.

Occam has assembled a world-class team with veterans from Cisco, Ericsson, Alcatel, Sun Microsystems, N.E.T., and BBN that have the proven ability to develop innovative telecom equipment and effectively work with carriers through the trial periods that lead to volume orders.
