During his time in the role he has focused the Support & Services teams on developing Operating models, tools and processes designed to enhance the Customer experience with Occam. Before joining Occam, Archbold spent 8 years at Sun Microsystems in a variety of Operational roles, including Material Planning and Procurement and Commodity Management. He originally hails from Edinburgh, Scotland but now makes his home in Southern California.

Occam has recently added updated versions of the BLC 6000 operating system (OS) software, Occam OS 5.5, and its line of Optical Network Terminator software, ONT Release 3.0. As the Director of Product Line Management and Customer Premise Equipment Business, Jim Soriano has more than 20 years of experience identifying, designing, and driving telecommunications, data communications and consumer networking technologies, standards, and partnerships. Before joining Occam, Jim was president of TagStream, an innovative developer of process data management and regulatory compliance software using RFID and wireless networks. Previously, Jim was CTO and co-founder of Ectogenic, a software company specializing in secure networking for embedded and consumer devices such as game consoles and digital cameras. He also served as the founding Vice President of Engineering at Occam Networks and was Chief Technologist and Vice President of Product Development at Xircom, a pioneering mobile networking company acquired by Intel. During his tenure at Xircom he had operational responsibilities as General Manager of the company’s Wired Business Unit, responsible for over $150M in annual revenues. He also drove several PCMCIA and IEEE standards. Earlier in his career Jim held a variety of engineering and product management positions at Rockwell Network Systems, InteCom and Texas Instruments.

North American service providers, particularly incumbent local exchange carriers (ILEC) in rural markets, face significant challenges to their existing business models. In the past most providers have relied on a combination of customer revenue, recovery of network costs from users, inter-carrier compensation and universal service funding to drive revenue. Mr. Bittancourt has worked in data networking and communications for 16 years. Prior to joining Occam, he was Director of Service Provider Platforms for Ericsson Datacom, Inc. Bittancourt also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Quadron Corporation specializing in data communications and has held product management roles for Robert Bosch Corporation. He holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University.

Mr. Sharer has more than 20 years in the telecommunications and data networking industry. Prior to Occam, Sharer was Acting Vice President of Marketing for Ericsson Datacom, Inc. At Ericsson Datacom, he also served as Vice President of Product Marketing for the IP Network Access and IP Telephony product units and as Director of Global Alliances. Sharer also served as Acting Director of Marketing, Sales and Operations for MediaOne Connect, Inc. Sharer's previous experience includes Director of Sales Operations, Director of Corporate Access, and Director of Client Products at Xircom, Inc. Sharer also worked at Rockwell International's CMC Network Products Division. He holds a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from California Polytechnic State University.

Mark Rumer, Founder and Chief Technical Officer
Rumer maintains a reputation as one of the industry's leading experts in analog and packet telephony solutions. Rumer's experience as a Systems Architect for Cisco Systems included pioneering the company's Voice over IP technology. For that accomplishment, he was recognized as a Cisco Pioneer of Technology for excellence in Packet Telephony Applications. Rumer was also responsible for driving Cisco's development of digital signal processing technology with third-party silicon vendors and developing innovative processes to significantly shorten product development time. Prior to joining Cisco, Rumer worked at StrataCom, where he was awarded three patents for developing a voice, fax, and modem over ATM protocol and a unified ATM system control bus for a distributed switching architecture. Rumer began his career in 1985 at N.E.T. as a Senior Hardware Engineer.

As carriers continue to push Ethernet- and IP-based traffic further into the local loop, service providers need solutions to address rural MDU/MTU and RT locations. The deeper in the access network that Ethernet electronics are deployed, the smaller the number of ports being served becomes. Service providers need tools that will enable them to continue their move to a converged IP/Ethernet infrastructure, regardless of the size of the uplink facility or the node. Rather than abandon these low density locations, service providers need solutions that will enable them to continue this major technology transition.
While legacy T1 network interconnection is still a common and viable option for many remote locations, it poses an interesting dilemma for service providers: How can you meet the service demands for POTS and ADSL2Plus using current T1-based facilities while you prepare for network improvements such as fiber? Additionally, how do you cost-justify new loop electronics at locations already served by legacy DLCs such as SLC96, SLC5, AFC UMCs, etc.?

With more than 10 years experience in last mile access technologies, Juan is responsible for development of new product and market strategies for Occam. Prior to joining Occam, he split his time between telecom service providers and broadband equipment suppliers, holding a variety of positions including member of technical staff and network engineering positions with national ILEC and CLEC companies, as well as product management and systems engineering postions with global communications equipment manufacturers. Juan is a well-versed industry professional who brings a unique perspective to the BLC supplier community. He holds a BSEE degree from FAMU/FSU College of Engineering in Tallahassee, Florida.
Dov Zimring, Director of Strategic Technology and Solutions, Occam Networks
Dov is a seasoned member of the Occam Networks technology team. During his tenure at Occam Networks, he has done extensive field work in the design and deployment of IP Video and Triple Play networks, experiencing first-hand the challenges and opportunities associated with IP Video transmission over DSL and FTTx access networks. Prior to joining Occam Networks, Dov was a software engineer at Condor Engineering. Dov is an active member of the DSL Forum and follows other standards bodies such as the IETF, IEEE, ATIS and the ITU. His work with standards and interoperability has included participation in the ADSL2+.
