Occam Networks - The Occam Edge - November 2, 2006
Awards

“Occam is a leader and a very innovative company in the IP market.  While most companies provide one platform for transport and one for access, Occam provides both capabilities in one product.  We get one blade that provides both, and that's a big benefit to us.  It saves us both financial and staffing resources.”

Gerry Grayson, Vice President of Technology

The CEO Connection

Bob Howard-AndersonOn February 1st, Occam reported its 2006 annual earnings. Annual revenue for 2006 was $68.6 million – a 75 percent increase over our 2005 annual revenue. As these numbers indicate, 2006 was clearly a breakthrough year for the company:

• We increased revenue;
• Maintained operating profits and positive cash flow all four quarters;
• Increased our balance sheet above $60 million with a re-listing and major offering on the NASDAQ National Market;
• Gained over 65 new customers;
• Introduced several major new products, including our award-winning 10Gig Reliable Transport blade and comprehensive EMS system;
• Surpassed the one millionth port shipped milestone; and
• Were named the #1 fast growing tech company in North America from 2001-2005, by Deloitte and Touche FAST 500.

We have been able to reach this level of achievement as a direct result of your continued support of our vision of Ethernet/IP in the access network, as well as your continued satisfaction with our products, technologies and support services. Customer satisfaction is of paramount importance to Occam.

As we move into 2007, we are taking steps to ensure that we continue to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. First, we are currently conducting our annual Customer Satisfaction Survey. We take this information seriously, using it to carefully measure the areas in which we have made improvements and to identify the areas in which we need to improve.

The 2007 Customer Satisfaction Surveys have been sent out via email. I urge you to complete the survey so that we can continue to provide you with optimal service and satisfaction. If you haven't received your survey, please contact Susan Vasquez at svasquez@occamnetworks.com.

We are also implementing a new internal program, the Customer Satisfaction Executive Watch Program. The Executive Team and I will attend weekly Executive Watch meetings with our Customer Support team in which we review all ‘hot' customer issues existing in the field. This gives me the opportunity to understand each of these critical issues and to ensure that our team is doing everything we can to resolve your issues quickly and efficiently. By taking these steps we are demonstrating our continuing commitment to you and your success.

Together, we can make 2007 another breakthrough year.

Bob Howard-Anderson
President and CEO, Occam Networks

Upgrading OccamOS using the "boot install kernel" command.

When upgrading BLC Blades, Occam Technical Support provides you with the following information for a seamless installation.  Each BLC compact flash has two partitions that store two independent copies of the OccamOS.  The setting that determines the active partition is stored in the BLC hardware, not the compact flash card.  This setting is determined by the partition that was active the last time the BLC was in service.

Simply issue the show boot status command before turning up the Blade.  This will provide you with the OccamOS version contained in each of the partitions.  Click here for a complete set of instructions on how to proceed.

Calendar profiles four leading edge customers.

The Occam 2007 Calendar has received rave reviews from our customers and partners who have received them.  The new four panel, 36” x 25” wall calendar is a large format quarterly that profiles four of our progressive customers:  Bledsoe Telephone Cooperative, Hargray Communications Group, Ontario & Trumansburg Telephone Companies and Valley Telecom Group.  Along with stunning photography of the areas that each company serves, the calendar includes important dates such as industry events, tradeshows and all holidays.  If you'd like to receive a copy of the calendar, send your request to svasquez@occamnetworks.com.

Leading Edge
Keeping current with key industry issues.

Occam maintains memberships in a variety of important industry organizations to ensure that we are up to date on the issues facing our industry and our customers.  We believe that we can maximize our effectiveness by keeping abreast of the issues that affect you.  We have recently joined two important organizations, Comptel and RICA.

image

COMPTEL is the leading industry association representing communications service providers and their supplier partners. Based in Washington, D.C., COMPTEL advances its member's business through policy advocacy and through education, networking and trade shows. COMPTEL members are entrepreneurial companies building and deploying next-generation networks to provide competitive voice, data, and video services.

The Rural Independent Competitive Alliance ("RICA") was formed in recognition of the significant impact regulatory actions can have on our fledgling competitive operations. As an advocate created specifically to address issues from the perspective of the rural ILEC competitive service offerings, RICA brings a unique focus, and a uniquely effective approach.

Through sponsoring educational forums, sharing the marketplace insight and experience of our members, and providing focused and effective advocacy, RICA stands ready to foster the success of your company as a provider of competitive communication services in rural America.

Through our membership in organizations such as these we can help shape and advance the new telecommunications paradigm.

Advancing Carrier Ethernet.

Occam recently became a full voting member of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF).  The MEF is:

  3. The definitive source of information, specifications, benefits and applications of Carrier Ethernet

image

While the company's MEF affiliation has just begun, Occam plans to become an active MEF participant and to focus on advancing Carrier Ethernet in our products and in independent standards organization.  Occam representative, Juan Vela, recently attended the Q1 meeting in Tampa.
