The CEO Connection
Occam enters 2008 energized and excited. While 2007 was a challenging year on some fronts for Occam, we once again showed our mettle and came through with significant achievements. The upcoming year holds even more promise for Occam. Promises that we intend to deliver upon.
We start the new year by adding several important new companies to our customer roster. Most recently, it was announced that we will be assisting Fairpoint Communications Inc., one of the largest rural telephone providers in the United States, with a major broadband expansion for the more than 1.5 million lines they are acquiring from in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. (This acquisition is pending approval of the PUCs in the three states.) We were also selected by Guam’s largest telecommunications service provider, GTA TeleGuam, for a network renovation and expansion project, and by Alabama’s New Hope Telephone Cooperative to upgrade its entire service network from copper to a point-to-point (P2P) Gigabit Ethernet fiber to the home (FTTH) network.
I am also excited about the innovative products we have planned for the coming year. We’ve taken your input and put together a new product development roadmap that will provide the functionality you need to deliver new services, lower operating costs and grow your businesses. In addition, I have focused the company on enhancing the quality of the total Occam experience, which includes combining our customer support and quality teams into a single team, reporting directly to me, designed to ensure that enhanced quality is at the top of our priority list. From product design and deployment to customer service and technical support, our goal is to ensure that you enjoy a quality experience with Occam.
I encourage you to discover these changes for yourself and during the year, I hope that you will take the time to visit us at our new corporate headquarters or at one of the many events we participate in during the year. Our interaction with you plays a key role in our continued success. Together we will enjoy a happy and prosperous 2008.
Bob Howard-Anderson
President and CEO

Customer Satisfaction Survey 2008
Share your ideas on how we can improve.
It’s time again for the annual Occam Customer Satisfaction Survey. These surveys play a key role in our ability to serve you better, providing Occam with the information it needs to judge the success of programs we have implemented and to identify areas of our business that need improvement. Surveys were sent out on January 15th, so check your email to make sure you’ve received yours. If you haven’t, please contact Rebecca Law. We encourage you to complete these valuable surveys so that we can continue to provide you with optimal service and satisfaction.

Tech Tip
Avoid DSL interoperability issues by upgrading DSL software
Over time changes to the DSL firmware on Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and modems can make older revisions of the DSL software on the Occam BLC obsolete. To ensure continued functionality, it is strongly recommended that all customers with Occam BLC-based networks that deliver DSL services upgrade to the most recent software revision. If the BLC has an older revision of software there is the potential for DSL interoperability issues that can cause a service interruption. Click here [add link] for more information.

Fairpoint Communications, Inc. has selected Occam as the lead access equipment provider for a major broadband upgrade of its pending acquisition of a network in northern New England. The first phase of the multi-phase upgrade project will include building 10Gig redundant Ethernet rings to over 200 Central Offices throughout the three-state region of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Phase two will add over 50,000 DSL lines to rural areas that previously did not have broadband service. Peter Nixon, President of FairPoint, said, “Occam was selected based on superior product features, their unique capability to handle the scale of our project and the strong track record they have compiled with our FairPoint properties over the years.
