The CEO Connection

Bob Howard-Anderson High Definition Access. You've seen Occam using this phrase a lot lately, and you may be wondering what High Definition Access really means. To Occam it’s more than just the bandwidth for a high-resolution TV image. We see it as the evolution of broadband communications—simple yet innovative access network technology and maximum deployment flexibility enabling the delivery of advanced IP-based services. With High Definition Access, service providers can deliver high-quality IPTV content, uninterrupted streaming media and POTS to a customer—all at the same time and all over an IP network that was installed just a few minutes ago.

Your challenge, of course, is to build a single converged access network that has the flexibility to address the needs of all your customers; whether they want basic phone service or the latest interactive gaming application. A network that has the scalability you need to grow your company as your community grows. A network with the reliability, low cost and operational efficiency that only a 21st century IP-over-Ethernet access network can offer.

And, that's where Occam comes in. Only Occam products have the distributed intelligence, embedded service assurance tools and scalability to make the broadband evolution a reality—to deliver true High Definition Access.

New Mexico's Largest Telephone Cooperative Selects the BLC 6000
ENMR·Plateau implements SIP VoIP

ENMR·Plateau has chosen the BLC 6000 as the centerpiece of its 25-exchange, three-year network upgrade. The cooperative will replace its current local loop and DSLAM solutions and will supplement its copper services with the Occam GPON fiber solution in one exchange. It will also implement SIP-enabled voice over IP (VoIP). Jeff Moore, Chief Operating Officer of the ENMR·Plateau Wireline Division, said, “With the growing need to maximize bandwidth delivery to each customer, we needed a partner with the right technology and the right service support to make our replacement program successful. NTCA Wrap Up

Occam is just back from one of the industry's most important events, the NTCA 2008 Annual Convention and Expo. At this year's event, fiber was a hot topic among the attendees. We were struck by their growing interest in deploying fiber to better serve their customers.

During the event, Occam held a dinner for customers at Pat O's on the River, part of the world-famous Pat O'Brien's restaurants. The approximately 50 attendees were treated to fine New Orleans cuisine, spectacular views of the Mississippi, great jazz and the opportunity to spend a little personal time with the Occam team. Jay Duncan, Plant Manager for Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative, was the lucky winner of a Best of New Orleans gift basket stocked with Cafe Du Monde coffee and beignet mix, Louisiana hot sauce, Zapp's potato chips and other New Orleans treats. Congratulations Jay!
