FairPoint picks Occam for planned upgrade

FairPoint Communications has chosen Occam Networks to be its lead vendor partner for network upgrades the telco plans to make in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, assuming its $2.7 billion acquisition of Verizon Communications properties in those states passes muster.
Occam would supply 10-Gigabit Ethernet rings to connect 200 central offices, as well as equipment to provide DSL access to 50,000 households that haven't had it before. The acquisition is still awaiting final approvals, but the vendor hiring is FairPoint's latest show of good faith.
