Occam Networks, a supplier of Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies, announced that its BLC 6322 GPON OLT Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) product is a finalist in the Best New Product Category of the 2008 American Business Awards.
The BLC 6322 is a product that enables telecommunications service providers to upgrade their networks to handle the demand for bandwidth driven by IP HDTV, video on demand (VOD), gaming and other interactive applications.
Occam's BLC 6322 blade combines the capabilities of a full featured GPON OLT with 10G transport to create an innovative, simple to deploy FTTP solution. The BLC 6322 complements Occam s extensive pure IP, all packet multiservice access platform (MSAP) which includes gigabit Point-to-Point (P2P) FTTP, ADSL2Plus and Lifeline POTS, said Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing. We are honored to be recognized as a Stevie finalist. Adding to the 2007 Internet Telephony Product of the Year, Occam Networks is once again recognized as an industry innovator.
At the core of Occam s GPON solution is the Occam Packet Engine. Occam Networks stated this technology supports the massive packet processing necessary to deliver IP Triple Play and other interactive services by enabling each OLT blade to manage more than 2048 simultaneous traffic streams. The Occam Packet Engine also provides hardware based QoS, security and multicast management ensuring a differentiated quality of experience. Combined with wirespeed packet switching capable of scaling to 15 Gbps, the Occam Packet Engine is at the core of innovation.
