Occam Networks Launches Partnership Program Focused on Local Loop Next Generation Service Delivery
Program Opens New Markets for Next Generation Equipment Manufacturers, Delivers Service Providers the Comprehensive, Interoperable Solutions Needed to Optimize Revenue Streams
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Oct. 15, 2001
- Occam Networks, Inc., developer of scalable,
cost-effective, packet-based voice and broadband local loop solutions,
today announced the launch of the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN)
Alliance. The OPAN Alliance is the telecommunications industry's
first multi-company partnership program focused exclusively on delivering
comprehensive, interoperable and easily supported next generation
solutions in the local loop that minimize deployment, operational
and maintenance costs for service providers.
"The OPAN Alliance is unique because of its focus on the next-gen local loop, a service deployment approach that can cut delivery costs by more than 35 percent while protecting existing infrastructure investments," said Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing for Occam Networks. "The OPAN Alliance program offers service providers an easy way to trial, implement and support the local loop solutions they need to achieve these benefits. At the same time, the program gives next generation suppliers access to a new market that has the potential to be orders of magnitude larger than the market for the network core."
Manufacturers participating in the OPAN Alliance program will ensure that their products are fully interoperable with Occam's Broadband Loop Carriers (BLCs), environmentally hardened, compact platforms that integrate the functionality of Digital Loop Carriers (DLCs), DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs), voice media gateways and loop testers. In addition, participants will work together as a team-to develop business cases that demonstrate the economic benefits of next-gen local loops. This approach will also be used by the OPAN Alliance to complete customer trials and to rollout comprehensive local loop solutions.
Another benefit of the OPAN Alliance to service
providers concerned with cost-effective implementation of next generation
services is that members of the alliance are cross-trained on each
other's platforms, facilitating support for the solutions delivered
through OPAN.
