Sonus Networks Joins the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) Alliance
Membership in OPAN Enables Delivery of Next-Gen Local Loop Solutions
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - October 15, 2001 - Occam Networks, Inc., developer of scalable, cost-effective, packet-based voice and broadband local loop solutions, today announced that Sonus Networks has joined the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) Alliance. The OPAN Alliance is the telecommunications industry's first multi-company partnership program focused exclusively on delivering comprehensive, interoperable and easily supported next generation solutions in the local loop that minimize deployment, operational and maintenance costs for service providers.
"We are pleased to become a member of Occam's OPAN Alliance," said Terri Griffin, vice president of marketing at Sonus Networks. "Our companies' cooperation and interoperability testing enable service providers to leverage their investment in Sonus products to support cost-effective delivery of next generation services curb-side."
Through its participation in the OPAN Alliance, Sonus will perform interoperability testing with Occam's Broadband Loop Carriers (BLCs), environmentally hardened compact platforms that integrate the functionality of Digital Loop Carriers (DLCs), DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs), voice media gateways and loop testers.
"Sonus is the recognized leader in next generation packet voice infrastructure products and we look forward to working with them to modernize the local loop for delivery of next gen services to residential and business markets," said Russ Sharer, Occam's vice president of marketing. "Sonus' quality reputation, the capabilities of our BLCs, and the fact that local loop-based next generation services can cut delivery costs by more than 35 percent as compared to alternative delivery approaches, make our combined product solution very compelling to service providers."
