Occam Networks
and VocalData Form Partnership to Create Unique
IP Centrex Solution
New Solution Enables Carriers to Offer Hosted IP Telephony and Enhanced Applications to Wider Range of Customers with Carrier-Network-Level Quality
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – April 28, 2003 - Occam Networks Inc., a supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced that VocalData has joined the Occam Packet Access Network (OPAN) alliance. Through the partnership, the companies have created a joint solution enabling carriers to offer hosted IP telephony services through a network-based architecture that combines the Occam Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) platform and VocalData's VOISS™ solution in the access network. Occam's Ethernet & IP-based BLC platform, which streamlines the access network by integrating the functionality of several types of network equipment, resides in the service provider network and acts as a voice gateway for VocalData's VOISS solution.
“By combining our voice application server with Occam's BLC platform, we enable carriers offering hosted IP telephony to reach a greater number of customers cost-effectively using standard copper telephone lines,” said Mark Whittier, vice president of marketing, VocalData. "With this solution, end customers benefit from reliable telephony service combined with new, converged applications while avoiding the added costs of new handsets.”
VocalData's VOISS system can be configured to deliver hosted PBX, IP Centrex, business trunking, residential services, and enhanced applications such as conferencing, unified messaging, and the Web portal, which provides end-users with unprecedented freedom to customize their telecommunications preferences, via on-screen applications such as “find me, follow me.” VOISS allows service providers the ability to serve a wide range of markets from basic residential customers to sophisticated business customers with reliable, full-featured voice over IP.
“More of our customers are looking to offer IP Centrex services,
and this is an excellent partnership because it ensures complete
interoperability and the highest service quality possible,” said
Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing at Occam Networks. “Our
Ethernet and IP platform provides a number of innovative ways for
carriers to generate revenue and expand their service offerings,
and having VocalData join the OPAN alliance allows us to continue
to prove the value of an all IP packet access network.”
The OPAN alliance is a multi-company partnership program focused
exclusively on delivering comprehensive, interoperable and easily
supported next-generation local loop solutions that minimize
deployment, operational and maintenance costs for service providers.
