Occam Networks Introduces BLC 6000 Broadband Loop Carrier System Based on Broadcom's ADSL and Gigabit Ethernet Networking Silicon

IRVINE, Calif. – June 3, 2003 – Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), the leading provider of silicon solutions enabling broadband communications, today announced that Occam Networks' (OTCBB: OCCM) BLC 6000 Broadband Loop Carrier System uses Broadcom's ADSL and Gigabit Ethernet silicon technologies for delivering and aggregating broadband traffic. Through the use of DSL, Internet Protocol and Ethernet technologies, the Occam BLC 6000 System, announced last month, enables carriers to add the bandwidth they need to provide new, revenue-generating broadband services, such as triple play, while also lowering capital expenditures and operating expenses.
Broadcom's ability to offer a set of high-performance chips supporting both ADSL and Gigabit Ethernet enabled Occam Networks to develop the industry's first modular loop carrier system that integrates standard IP and Ethernet protocols for transport and control and offers scalable Ethernet trunking. The BLC 6000 system eliminates the need for additional pieces of access equipment, such as DSLAM, Ethernet switch, optical add drop multiplexor and voice over IP equipment. This advanced modular architecture provides Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) with a cost-effective solution for delivering broadband traffic to business and residential customers.

Broadcom's ADSL and Gigabit Ethernet products provide the high-performance, high-capacity architecture for the BLC 6000 System. The Broadcom® BCM6410/20 BladeRunner? ADSL Central Office (CO) chipset enables the high-speed access capability from the CO or remote terminal (RT). Aggregation and transport of the user traffic is powered by a family of Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) devices, which include the BCM5691 StrataXGS™ GbE multi-layer switch chip, the BCM5421S GbE physical layer (PHY) device, and the BCM5703S GbE media access controller (MAC). These Gigabit Ethernet chips enable the uplink, switching, and backplane capabilities in the BLC 6000 System.
