Occam Networks Achieves Interoperability with BroadSoft to Deliver Innovative VoIP Solutions

Successful Interoperability Testing Enables Efficient, Cost-Effective Delivery of an Array of Enhanced VoIP Applications

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - June 28, 2005 - Occam Networks Inc. (OTCBB: OCCM), a supplier of innovative Ethernet- and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced the successful completion of interoperability validation testing with BroadSoft®, the leading provider of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application software. Using the Occam BLC 6000 System with the BroadWorks® VoIP application platform enables businesses to deliver a variety of VoIP features more efficiently and more cost-effectively while keeping their existing premises-based Centrex and PBX equipment.

The interoperable solution enables service providers to offer hosted IP telephony services through an Ethernet- and IP-based access network architecture that incorporates both the Occam BLC platform and the BroadSoft BroadWorks VoIP application platform. With this architecture, service providers can take advantage of the operational efficiencies of an IP/Ethernet access network to provide enhanced VoIP services that increase productivity through mobility capabilities and easy to use applications.

"Occam's BLC interoperability with the BroadWorks VoIP application platform gives service providers the ability to expand their service offerings and broaden their customer base at significant cost savings," said Scott Wharton, vice president of marketing for BroadSoft. "We are pleased that Occam has completed BroadSoft's interoperability validation testing and that we can count them as a partner. Our joint customer, Comporium, has successfully deployed the interoperable solutions, and we look forward to working with Occam to meet the VoIP requirements of other service providers."

Comporium is currently using the Occam solution to provide IP-based telephony services to county government agencies in Lexington, South Carolina. In the Comporium application, Occam BLC 6000 Systems connect county agencies to Comporium's central office based backbone network via fiber optic rings utilizing Gigabit Ethernet Protection Switching (EPS). The Occam equipment provides dial tone on approximately 1,400-lines, spread across the county, with a mix of basic centrex features, served from a traditional Class 5 switch, as well as a complete set of enhanced VoIP features, hosted on the BroadSoft platform. The BroadSoft-served lines use a combination of IP telephones, and more predominantly, the county's existing traditional telephone sets.

BroadSoft's BroadWorks provides a comprehensive range of VoIP applications, including hosted PBX, IP Centrex, mobile PBX, residential broadband and business trunking, fully integrated into a single hosted communications platform. BroadWorks is uniquely capable of providing these applications with the reliability, redundancy, scalability and regulatory capabilities required to deliver carrier-class service.

"Voice over IP is becoming more and more important to service providers because it enables them to offer a variety of enhanced services for less cost," said Russ Sharer, vice president of sales and marketing for Occam. "Our partnership with BroadSoft and interoperability with BroadWorks is clearly market driven - our ability to offer our customers the broadest set of solutions possible is key to our continued success."

The Occam BLC 6000 integrates the functions of an NGDLC, DSLAM, Optical Multiplexer, Ethernet Switch, and VoIP Gateway into an environmentally hardened loop carrier system that simplifies the access network by consolidating multiple functions into a single network element. Its core service delivery model is based on the simplest, most common, and most cost-effective technologies available today - IP and Ethernet. Occam's BLC 6000 provides greater network performance and scalability, lower costs, and efficient delivery of all services when compared to legacy SONET and ATM technologies.
