Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative Meets Growing Demand for DSL Service in Texas Hill Country with Occam Networks Solution
Largest Telephone Cooperative in Texas Deploys Occam BLC 6000 throughout its Access Network
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sept. 14, 2005 Occam Networks ® Inc. (OTCBB: OCCM) , a supplier of innovative Ethernet- and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced that Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative (GVTC) has begun deploying the Occam BLC 6000™ System throughout its access network to enable the company to meet the growing demand for digital subscriber line (DSL) service from its 30 thousand customers.
GTVC, the ninth-largest local exchange carrier (LEC) in Texas, is installing the Occam BLC 6000 in areas where it needs to upgrade exhausted network facilities and in highly competitive areas where it will offer high-speed Internet access.
“While GVTC has a robust access network in place, we see the need to migrate from our ATM-based network to an Ethernet- and IP-based network in the future,” said Josh Pettiette, NOC Manager for GVTC. “The Occam BLC provides us with a great migration path to the future, enabling us to deliver DSL in areas where there is demand today while continuing to maintain our existing network. As we experience demand for Triple Play services, we know we can deliver them with the BLC 6000. Occam delivers what they promise: greater flexibility and more bandwidth with an unmatched level of simplicity.”
GVTC began the search for a broadband loop carrier in early 2005, evaluating products from a total of four manufacturers before selecting the Occam BLC. GTVC cited the BLC 6000's ability to deliver the performance that Occam promised and the product's overall simplicity as key reasons for its selection.
Currently, the company has been deploying Occam BLC 6000 Systems over the last 6 months and has plans to add additional units in the next few months. According to Pettiette, “If the demand for DSL continues to grow at today's rates, we feel like deployment of the BLC 6000 in our network will be ongoing.”
“The Occam BLC 6000 is an access network work horse that can be used in networks to deliver a variety of services ranging from POTS to DSL to Triple Play,” said Russ Sharer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Occam. “Its simplicity and flexibility enables our customers to grow their access networks in response to subscribers' service demands and to protect the investments they make in their infrastructure.”
