Occam Networks Named by Centennial de Puerto Rico
To Expand Telco's FTTB Services
Occam's First Caribbean and First SIP-Based Metro Ethernet Customer
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – June 25, 2007 – Centennial de Puerto Rico, the second largest telecommunications service provider in the commonwealth, has selected Occam's Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) system, including Occam's new Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) voice functionality, as part of its strategy to expand its fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) Ethernet solution. Occam Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:OCNW) is a leading supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies. Centennial is Occam Networks' first customer in the Caribbean region and its first business-only customer that is SIP based.
Centennial maintains more than 400,000 lines and provides wireline, wireless and broadband data services in Puerto Rico and in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Centennial also provides wireless service in parts of the U.S. Midwest and South.
"We selected Occam based on the performance, reliability and compatibility of the system," said Naji Khoury, assistant vice president of product management for Centennial. "Their products enable us to offer fiber and copper based services to our business customers using common SIP call control."
The CLEC maintains an extensive fiber layout and is deploying a metro Ethernet solution to its business customer base for VoIP and data, including private VLANs for E-LAN services. Centennial has purchased and deployed Occam's BLC 6312 Optical Line Terminal Blades, BLC 6440-01 Optical Packet Transport Blades and 2342 Optical Fiber Network Terminals (ONTs).
"As a telco innovator in the Caribbean region, Centennial is an important part of Occam's growth strategy in North America," said Nathan Harrell, vice president of sales for Occam Networks. "Occam is eager to expand its representation in the Caribbean and is committed to providing the products that will enable these telcos to offer new, exciting IP-based broadband services."
"SIP is rapidly becoming the VoIP control protocol of choice due to the wide variety of traditional and value-add features and services it enables telcos to offer. SIP reflects Occam's ongoing value of delivering advanced solutions to our telco customers to help them expand their product offerings and revenue opportunities."
