Occam Networks Selected by North Central Telephone Cooperative to Deliver Triple Play Services
Tennessee Telco Upgrades Network with Hybrid Copper/Fiber Solution
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – September 11, 2007 – Occam Networks® Inc. (NASDAQ: OCNW), a leading supplier of innovative Ethernet and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies, announced today that North Central Telephone Cooperative (NCTC), a fast-growing telecom services provider headquartered in Macon County, Tenn., has purchased components of Occam's Broadband Loop Carrier system to provide its customers with advanced services, including Triple Play and IP video.
"To meet our customers' growing need for advanced broadband services, we are implementing a significant upgrade to our network," said Ronnie Wilburn, vice president of operations, of NCTC. "In addition to ease of deployment and turn up, scalability and reliability, we researched solutions that would provide the best long term operating and cost effectiveness. Occam's solution fit into our network seamlessly. Occam surpassed several other telecom access equipment providers we reviewed."
NCTC was formed in 1951 and initially received loans from the Rural Electrification Agency (now known as the Rural Utilities Service or RUS) to provide service. Prior to NCTC, people in rural Tennessee and Kentucky lacked dependable telephone service as for-profit providers deemed the area too sparsely populated to effectively build out and maintain. Today, NCTC offers a wide range of services to residents and businesses in north central Tennessee and south central Kentucky.
The telco has purchased Occam's BLC 6252-02 ADSL2Plus blade. When NCTC's upgrade is complete, the telco will manage a hybrid network with video over copper lines out to 5,000 feet and active FTTH to subscriber areas beyond that. The deployment allows for multiple streams of high definition video as well as significant amounts of data bandwidth for subscribers.
"NCTC has a large number of video customers and the IP network upgrade they've planned will result in better service to them," said Nathan Harrell, vice president of sales for Occam. "We look forward to assisting NCTC with future projects to provide even more advanced services to their subscribers."
