Occam Networks' Milestones Illustrate Real Broadband Is Just Beginning

Occam Ships 2 Millionth Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) Port, Over 900 10G Systems Capable of 10G Aggregation and Over 50,000 Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) Ports

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – June 17, 2008 – Occam Networks, a leading broadband access supplier offering multi-service access platform (MSAP) solutions based on pure packet technologies, announced three key product milestones today. Reflecting telecommunication service providers' need for powerful networks and their enthusiasm for the Occam Broadband Loop Carrier (BLC) platform, Occam's milestones include the shipment of the 2 millionth BLC port, 900th10G aggregation system and 50,000th GigE FTTP (fiber-to-the-premise) port.

“Consumer habits and emerging applications are driving ever-higher speed connections with unprecedented growth and expansion of broadband networks throughout North America,” said Juan Vela, Director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy for Occam Networks. “These milestones are proof of what we have known for some time, Occam Networks' focus on innovative solutions, ease of deployment and simplicity of operation makes us the right choice for forward-looking service providers preparing for the future of broadband.”

Occam Ships 2 Millionth BLC 6000 Port
In 2001, Occam Networks introduced a revolutionary new solution, the BLC 6000 system, utilizing Active Ethernet as a transport and access network technology. Market experts immediately recognized the game-changing potential of the new technology, with Telecommunications Magazine citing Occam Networks as a “Hot Startup Company to Watch” as early as 2001. Occam's BLC products have received numerous awards, the most recent of which was the naming of Occam's new BLC 6322 GPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT) as Internet Telephony Magazine's “Product of the Year”. As a result of the BLC system's success, in 2006 Deloitte & Touche named Occam Networks the Fastest Growing Company in North America in the Technology Fast 500 category.

To date, Occam has shipped more than 2 million BLC 6000 ports to over 280 service providers in North America and the Caribbean, providing maximum flexibility and scalability to continuously expand service offerings, with an unmatched simplicity of service deployment.

Accelerated Deployment of High-Speed Broadband
According to the FCC's latest report on High Speed Internet Access Speeds, just 5.65 percent of U.S. broadband customers enjoyed transfer rates of greater than 10 Mbps. However, according to recent findings from Broadband Properties Magazine, a leading industry publication, consumer bandwidth requirements are expected to exceed 25 Mbps in the next couple of years pointing to the enormous growth potential for building and expanding high-speed broadband networks.

As a result of this expected growth and Ethernet's superiority as an access and aggregation technology, Occam has experienced growth in shipments of its aggregation and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) systems. Occam has shipped over 900 10G systems capable of transporting point-to-point and PON FTTP, ADSL2+, POTS and other mission critical traffic. Additionally, Occam has shipped over 50,000 GigE FTTP ports, a signal that service providers are starting to deploy the next generation of broadband.
