Occam Networks’ New VDSL2 Blade Features Industry Leading Port Density in a Compact Package

Offers Service Providers the Performance of VDSL2 in a 48-port 1-RU Platform Minimizing Space and Power Requirements

AUSTIN, Texas and SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – September 1, 2009 – Occam Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: OCNW) a leading broadband access supplier offering multiservice access platform (MSAP) solutions based on pure packet technologies has announced the newest blade in its BLC 6000 platform. The BLC 6216 VDSL2 blade has automatic fallback to ADSL2Plus and provides double the port density of competitive products in a more compact form factor and with less energy consumption.  Commercial availability is expected in Q1 2010 as part of the Occam OS 7.0 system release.

Occam announced the availability of this new solution at its Fifth Annual Occam Networks Users’ Group (ONUG) Conference, held August 31 – September 3 at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort in Austin, Texas.  More than 300 service providers, partners and others are attending.  With the theme “Think Big or Stay Home,” the conference features presentations by leading telecommunications thought leaders as well as hands on sessions to brief audience members on Occam’s newest solutions.

Demonstrating the simplicity inherent in Occam products and networks, Occam’s innovative distributed intelligence approach enables the new VDSL2 blade to operate in the Occam BLC 6000 system and is compatible with existing BLC deployments.  Its single rack unit (RU) footprint allows it to function as a stand-alone network element in remote terminal applications or in a 12 RU BLC 6012 chassis with other BLC 6000 blades for high-density central office deployments.

This flexible approach to network design simplifies the migration from older DSL technologies or platforms to VDSL2 as operators push fiber deeper into the loop to meet the broadband needs of consumers and businesses. Replacement is simple and integration to existing Occam deployments does not require new platforms that disrupt operations.

When used with a dual-mode VDSL2/ADSL2Plus modem, the 48-port BLC 6216 delivers a VDSL2 connection to single family residences (SFRs), multiple dwelling units/multiple tenant units (MDUs/MTUs), and small and medium businesses within 4000 feet and transitions to longer reach ADSL2Plus technology when placed in nodes at further distances.  Occam expects ADSL2Plus mode rate / reach performance to be as good or slightly better than existing ADSL2Plus only offerings.

Leveraging Occam’s experience in IP service delivery, the BLC 6216 features an extensive suite of software features including IP Security Management (IPSM), which allows for dynamic, “hands free” broadband network security.  To assure the highest QoE, Occam’s Video Channel Analysis (VCA) tool is embedded in BLC 6000 blades to monitor IPTV services.  Occam will also integrate the BLC 6216 into the Dr. DSL loop analysis tool for outside plant qualification and operations.
