The 48-port BLC 6152 is a twisted-pair copper subscriber access blade that delivers unparalleled Lifeline voice services to residential and business customers enabling service providers to extend the lifespan of existing copper networks. The BLC 6152 blade acts as a line access gateway to ease the circuit-to-packet voice network transition. It converts analog voice traffic to voice over IP (VoIP) with Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) or Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling for transport through a BLC 6000 MSAP. At the central office, voice is transmitted directly to a softswitch or to a BLC 6640 Trunking Gateway blade, which provides GR-08 or GR-303 digital interfaces to a Class 5 end office switch.
The Gigabit Ethernet ports of the BLC 6152 blade provide integral optical fiber transport for the system. The blade is equipped with ten Gigabit Ethernet ports: four optical and six copper. The Ethernet ports may be used in any configuration or combination for network transport, for blade interconnection or for Ethernet service delivery.
Integrated Test Tools
The 48-port BLC 6152 blade also includes integrated metallic line testing (MLT) enabling service providers to perform GR-909 POTS testing without the need to use a separate telephone test head and without dispatching a technician.
Common OS Enhances Blade Operation and Service Management
Like all BLC 6000 blades, the BLC 6152 features OccamOS, a common operating system that spans the entire range of BLC 6000 copper, Gigabit Ethernet and GPON products to provide consistent and uniform system and service attributes. This OS integrates a wide range of Occam copper and optical broadband technological advancements including the company’s patented IP Security Management (IPSM), which allows for dynamic, “hands free” network security.
OccamOS also offers excellent tools to identify and troubleshoot voice delivery problems, and Ethernet Protection Switching (EPS) delivers “carrier grade” network availability, flexible network topologies and use of all network bandwidth through traffic load balancing during normal operation.
Simple Management and Deployment Flexibility
The BLC 6152 blade can be managed easily via the blade’s integrated command line and web interface or through OccamView Element Management System, a robust, carrier-class element management system (EMS) that manages Occam BLC-based access networks effectively and economically.
The BLC 6152 blade can be deployed standalone, or it can be used in medium and high density deployments with other BLC 6000 blades in the BLC 6006 medium capacity chassis or the BLC 6012i/6012 high capacity chassis. A single BLC 6152 blade can be stacked with additional units to add capacity and hardware redundancy, and can be stacked with other BLC 6000 blades for full system capabilities.
Applications
The BLC 6152 can be used in a variety of applications, including:
- Lifeline voice delivery
- Line access gateway
- Multiple Gigabit Ethernet transport
