BLC 6000 Blades

BLC 6312 Optical Line Termination

The BLC 6000 represents the next evolution of FTTx service delivery. Occam is once again pioneering the use of Gigabit Ethernet for the delivery of IP based residential and business services. The 6312 Optical Line Termination Blade can be deployed in the same network and nodes with all of the other BLC 6000 systems including blades that support ADSL2+ and Lifeline POTS.

The BLC 6312 and 6314 FTTP blades enable telecommunications service providers to augment their existing access services with low packet latency, high bandwidth Gigabit Ethernet point to point FTTP access technology. Occam's GigE P2P FTTP service is a secure, unshared technology which offers the highest per subscriber unicast bandwidth of any access technology - bar none. At a per user price that is competitive with GPON FTTP, the service provider can freely deploy Passive or P2P FTTP technologies to meet their situational needs without sacrificing performance or back-office operational practices.

As Internet and entertainment bandwidth increase as a result of the proliferation and evolution of High Definition TV, Video on Demand and HD rich web content, the service provider can gracefully ramp access and aggregation bandwidth to meet those needs. Bandwidth isn't just bandwidth; packet latency should be a very important consideration. GigE based access services have the lowest packet latency of any access technology on the market. As entertainment becomes more interactive the consumer will demand less delay and greater responsiveness. A perfect example of interactive entertainment is online gaming. In many of those games, small fractions of a second are a serious matter.

The 6312 P2P FTTP Optical Line Termination Blade can be deployed standalone in the 6001 chassis as the BLC 6312 assembly. It can also be used in highdensity deployments with additional 6312 blades or with any of the other BLC 6000 access technologies such as GPON, ADSL2Plus and Lifeline POTS. Like all of Occam's BLC 6000 chassis and blades, the 6312 is hardened for use in the rugged environment of the Outside Plant but its efficiencies of scale, low noise and flexibility of application make it an excellent choice for Central Office, CEV, hut and closet installations as well.

Service Delivery and Management
All Occam access blades consistently use the simple N:1 service delivery architecture defined by the DSL Forum in TR-101. This VLAN-per-service architecture enables Occam access blades to "tap into" predefined services such as Voice, Internet, Gaming and IPTV thus minimizing time to revenue for the new access service. The BLC 6312 provides the same service assurance tools and diagnostic information found on all of the BLC 6000 blades. The BLC 6312 falls under the Occam View network management and service activation framework.

It is also common to use the 6312 in conjunction with the 6314 blade in order to aggregate all the uplink traffic onto optical 10Gig Ethernet resilient access rings by way of the 6312's copper-based 10Gigabit Ethernet interconnect ports. When the 10Gig interconnect ports are used for traffic aggregation, all 22 of the 6312 fiber ports can be used for subscriber access. These GigE subscriber lines work with Occam Network's ON 2300 series of Optical Network Terminals. These ONTs provide a variety of capacities in Lifeline POTS and high speed Internet traffic, IPTV and business services.
